Dean E. Swisher

Dean E. Swisher, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018. He was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Gypsum, to Wilbur and Tressa Swisher. He married Nancy E. Miller, May 30, 1954 in Solomon.

Dean was born and raised in Gypsum. He attended Gypsum Grade School and after graduating High School in McPherson, he attended Fort Hays State University. Over the years Dean worked on construction of the Kansas turnpike in Wichita and El Dorado, was owner and operator of Dean’s 66 Service station in Gypsum, worked for Dickinson and Saline Counties as a supervisor, and was owner and operator of Dean’s Decorating, a painting and wall papering business. He served the town of Gypsum as Mayor, member of the town council, and member of the volunteer fire department.

Left to mourn his passing are: his children, Brenda Peterson (John), Brian Swisher, and Rose Ann Taylor, all of Salina; grandchildren, Christy Smith (Larry), Clint Ade (Jill), Clay Ade (Brandi), Cara Griggs (Heath), and Tiffany Clark (Ben); nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy; parents, Wilbur and Tressa Swisher; son, Brad Swisher; siblings, Gerald Swisher, Velma Highsmith, Glenda Simmons, and Dale Swisher; and grandchildren, Holly Ann Ade, and Johnathan Taylor.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, with visitation prior to the service at 11, all at the First Baptist Church, 807 Spring Street, Gypsum. Burial will follow at Gypsum Valley Cemetery #2.

Memorials may be made to the Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, KS 67401.
