Russell City Fire Department Receives Grants, Replaces Equipment

KRSL – November 21, 2018

The Russell City Fire Department applied for grants from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation and the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to help with funding self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) cylinder replacement.

The department was awarded $53,290 from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation on June 25, which was used to purchase seven SCBA cylinders. The grant was used in conjunction with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grant the department received on April 3 in the amount of $27,056 to purchase four SCBA air packs and cylinders for the firefighters.

This fire safety equipment protects the firefighters from breathing in harmful toxins that are found on fire and hazardous materials scenes.

The Russell City Fire Department thanks the Dane G. Hansen Foundation and the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for making this possible and helping to keep firefighters safe on every call.

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation of Logan was established in 1965 with a generous estate gift from Dane G. Hansen. Reflecting Hansen’s lifelong love of Northwest Kansas, the charitable foundation that bears his name has a mission to improve the quality of life for the residents and the communities in the 26 counties that make up the northwest quarter of Kansas.

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted more than $35 million to hometown heroes in 47 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, including more than $491,000 in Kansas.
