Fire in train car at BNSF shops extinguished early Tuesday

Topeka Fire Department crews extinguished a blaze early Tuesday at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway shops in East Topeka.

Crews were sent to a report of a train car on fire around 6 a.m. inside a building at the shops, near S.E. 1st and Jefferson Trafficway.

Initial reports from the scene indicated a fire in the middle part of a railroad car inside one of the buildings inside the shops.

The fire was reported out as of 6:30 a.m., though crews remained at the scene as of 7 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and additional details weren’t immediately available.
