Fire guts Maize home, killing pets

KWCH – November 20, 2018

Sedgwick County firefighters battled a house fire in Maize overnight.

That fire broke out near Park Avenue and Mikado.

When crews arrived, they found flames shooting from the front of the home.

Firefighters believe the fire had been burning for quite some time before they were called.

“We’re in an industrial area and it burned for awhile and the owner actually showed up first and he found the fire,” said Division Chief Eddie Fajardo with the Sedgwick County Fire Department.

No people were home at the time and no one was hurt, though there were four pets inside. Three of them were killed.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
