Douglas “Doug” Kent Gwinup

Doug’s life began on November 14, 1948 in Wichita. He is the son of Billy Lee and Kathryn G. (Hale) Gwinup. He is a 1967 graduate of Sedgwick High School and attended trade school for heating and air. Doug was united in marriage to the former Cecelia Creasser on February 16, 1969 in Sedgwick. He worked for the USD 375 school district in maintenance and part time at Butler County Community College. Doug enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid police scanner listener. He served on the Towanda Volunteer Fire Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s auxiliary. Doug was always there to help someone in need. His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Cecelia of Towanda, children Rhonda Gwinup of Towanda, Patrick Gwinup of Towanda and Chris (Veronica) Gwinup of Wichita; grandchildren Savannah, Blaise, Liam, Rory, and Quinn Gwinup; siblings Judy (Leroy) Richmeier of Wichita, Debra Gwinup of Minnesota and Martin (Kathy) Gwinup of Minnetonka, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. Doug passed away on November 2, 2018 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover. His parents precede him in death. His family will gather with friends on Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (645 N. 119th; Wichita) for a Rosary prayer and again on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Towanda Cemetery for his graveside service led by Pastor Craig Reynolds. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Doug’s name may be directed to the American Diabetes or American Heart Associations.
