Recruitment – Firefighter

Fire District #1 -Johnson County proudly serves Gardner, Edgerton, New Century Air Center and 100 square miles of rural southwest Johnson County.  “Our Mission is to protect life and property and enhance the well-being of all that we serve.”

Fire District #1 is currently accepting application for the position of Firefighter/EMT.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older and have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Firefighter I Certification
  • Firefighter II Certification
  • Kansas Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification
  • HAZMAT Awareness
  • HAZMAT Operations
  • Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification
  • Fire Service Entrance Exam (FSEE) certification with a passing score of 70% or better
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • The ability to pass a post offer physical and drug screen and background investigation
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts

Work Schedule:

Shift fire personnel work a regular pattern of 24-hour shifts in a 28-day work period (this schedule is often referred to as the “California Berkley Shift”).
