Authorities and rescue personnel spent part of Friday night searching for a male victim who drove a vehicle into the river at Kaw Point Park, police said.

The incident happened around 6:50 p.m. at the Kaw Point Park boat ramp in Kansas City, Kan., close to the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers.

Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office Capt. David Thaxton said a vehicle was seen going into the river. According to a tweet from Kansas City, Kan., Police Chief Terry Zeigler, a witness saw a male treading water.

“A male popped up, went down and they haven’t seen him since then,” Thaxton said.

Rescue boats were seen searching the river for at least an hour. By 8:15 p.m., crews hadn’t found anything but continued looking.

No further information was released.
