A Salina man died from injuries he received from a house fire that took place early Wednesday early morning, according to Salina police Capt. Paul Forrester.

A police offer noticed heavy smoke about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and people called 911 to report a fire at 832 N. Seventh St.

Firefighters found Ronald Holub, 78, of Salina, unresponsive in his residence, Forrester said. Holub was transferred to Salina Regional Health Center, where he died from his injuries, Forrester said.

The Salina Fire Department determined the fire was set accidentally, according to Forrester. The house was a total loss. Fire Marshall Troy Long was unavailable Thursday to provide additional information.
