Fire department tests life raft

Abilene Reflector Chronicle – August 16, 2018

Members of the Abilene Fire Department performed a water rescue simulation last Monday. The department has owned an inflatable rescue raft for a couple of years but it has never seen water. The department worked with Abilene Parks and Recreation Director Jane Foltz to utilize the capabilities of this raft. The Oceanid Water Rescue Craft is designed for water rescues, ice rescues, water recoveries and so much more. Rescue workers tried to sink it, tip it over and make it fail, but could not get it to fail. It rescued swimmers in the pool every time. Workers hauled in people through the tunnel and over the sides, all successful without tipping it over.
