Man injured when tire explodes

Abilene Reflector Chronicle – July 25, 2018

A 28-year-old Greeley, Colo., was transported to Salina Regional Health Center after a tire on a semitrailer exploded on North Buckeye Avenue Tuesday.

According to the Abilene Police Department, Eric Bates was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 at the Buckeye Avenue intersection at 10:45 a.m. when a rear tire on the 2011 Freightliner caught on fire.

The semi exited Interstate 70 and pulled in the 24/7 Travel Store, 2200 N. Buckeye.

According to the police, Bates exited the vehicle and as he attempted to extinguish the fire, the tire exploded, injuring him.
