Hay trailer rolls over man

A Horton man suffered possible internal injuries on Monday afternoon after being run over by a hay trailer.

A sheriff’s deputy at the scene said first responders arrived at about 2:40 p.m. in the 10000 block of Osbourne Road in rural Atchison County, at what appeared to be a corn farm. There, they found Darren M. Thorson had suffered injuries from the trailer running over his torso area.

In a news release, Sheriff Jack Laurie said Thorson, working for Brown-Atchison Electric Cooperative, had been examining power lines in the area at about 2:18 p.m. A 2003 Ford F250 drove by with a hay trailer, inadvertently pulling it into the ditch worksite Thorson set up, causing him to be run over. No citations have been announced.

The deputy said Atchison County EMS transported Thorson from the scene in stable condition; Laurie said they went to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri. The ambulance carrying him left the scene with lights activated, driving at normal speed. All emergency vehicles cleared the scene before 3:10 p.m.
