According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the two-vehicle crash happened at NW 100th and Highway 160 west of Columbus, Kansas around 9:59 a.m. Friday morning, July 20th, 2018.

Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading west on Highway 160 when a 2007 Pontiac passenger car pulled onto the highway and the two vehicles collided.

42-year-old David Brewer was driving the motorcycle. His wife, 41-year-old Stacey Brewer, was his passenger. Both are Riverton, Kansas residents. The Sheriff’s Office says both were wearing their helmets, but died due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Pontiac was not injured.

David Brewer was an officer with the Joplin Police Department. He was assigned as a traffic police officer who regularly rode a motorcycle on the job.
