Multiple blazes overnight kept Topeka Fire Department crews hopping in an area of west-central Topeka, and authorities were looking for three youngsters who they believe may have been responsible.

Six fires were reported between at 11:48 p.m. Tuesday and 12:23 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

Fires were reported in the 1100 block of S.W. Clay, the 1100 block of S.W. Fillmore, the 1000 block of S.W. Munson, the 900 block of S.W. Buchanan, the 800 block of S.W. Jewell and near S.W. 8th and Summit.

A trash can fire, a couple of grass fire and a fire at a house were reported during the overnight hours.

Several hours later, a detached garage was damaged in a fire in the 900 block of S.W. Lindenwood, which was the last blaze that was reported around 3:30 a.m. Crews remained on the scene as of 4:45 a.m.

It wasn’t known if the garage blaze was related to the other fires, though it was in the same vicinity.

There was no immediate damage estimates and no reports of injuries.

Topeka Fire Department investigators were looking into the blazes.

Additional details weren’t immediately available.
