An accidental pasture fire Tuesday afternoon produced a large amount of black smoke and threatened a barn while setting one boat and some farm implements on fire just northwest of Topeka, authorities said.

Crews from the Dover Township Fire Department were sent around 12:55 p.m. to 11225 N.W. 13th on a report of a large field fire that was covering about 5 acres.

Authorities quickly requested mutual aid from the Mission Township and Rossville fire departments to help battle the blaze.

The location on N.W. 13th was between Glick and Docking roads, just west of Valencia Road and north of Interstate 70. The location is just south of the Kansas River and just southwest of Silver Lake.

The fire was out by 1:54 p.m., and no structures were destroyed.

No injuries were reported, said Capt. Kyle Soldani, of Shawnee County Fire District 4, which serves the Dover area and I-70 at Valencia.

Soldani said the owner told fire officials that metal work was being done at the home and the fire might have started from sparks.
