Victims identified in Saturday’s fatality crash

Emporia Gazette – July 9, 2018

Two people are dead following a pursuit on I-35.

Shortly before 8 PM, a Lyon County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle, driven by Sharnicca Cannon, 23, of Tucson Arizona, on I-35 at mile marker 142. Cannon failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit it was learned the vehicle had been reported stolen during a robbery in Emporia.

“The driver attempted to exit at mile marker 160, the Melvern Kansas exit at a high rate of speed,” Sergeant Doug Stump with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “The driver lost control, left the roadway and rolled several times.”

Anthony Krawcryk, 20, of Mesa Arizona was a passenger in the vehicle.

Coffey County EMS/Fire, Osage County EMS/Fire (Melvern) and a Life Team helicopter responded to the scene. The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office and the Osage County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the investigation.

“Life saving measures were unsuccessful,” Stump said. “Both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.”

The crash remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
