An intentionally set fire did an estimated $5,000 damage Sunday evening to a house at 5817 S.W. Huntoon, authorities said. No one was hurt.

Topeka firefighters were called about 8:40 p.m. to the scene, where they arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the one-story house, said Topeka Fire Marshal Mike Martin.

Firefighters forced entry and quickly put out the fire, Martin said. They also searched the house and confirmed it was empty.

Damages were estimated at $5,000 to the structure, with no dollar damages being reported to its contents, Martin said.

No working smoke alarms were found in the house.

Other agencies that responded to the scene were Kansas Gas Service, Westar Energy, the Topeka Police Department and American Medical Response Ambulance Co.

Shawnee County appraiser’s office records show Topeka-based Jefferson Investments LLC since July 2017 has owned the house, which has an appraised value of $25,830.
