No serious injuries were reported after an industrial lathe exploded and briefly caught fire late Tuesday morning at a machine shop in downtown Topeka, authorities said.

Topeka Fire Department crews were sent around 11:23 a.m. to a building housing Topeka Foundry & Iron Works, 300 S.W. Jackson.

Fire department officials said at the scene that employees at the business used a fire extinguisher to put out a fire that flared up after the lathe exploded. The blaze was out by the time fire crews arrived at the scene.

One employee at the business was reported to have sustained minor injuries. Fire officials said that individual would seek medical care on his own.
