Shed fire spreads to two mobile homes

A shed fire on Friday ignited two homes at Redbud Estates, causing a combined $85,000 in damage.

The Manhattan Fire Department reported to 2500 Farm Bureau Road at 3:40 p.m. Friday after someone reported a shed fire next to a mobile home. When firefighters got to Redbud Estates, they found the fire had spread to two mobile homes.

Owner Kyle Griffith and his family left their home, No. 367, before the fire spread. Nobody was home at the second mobile home, owned by David Mayer.

Twenty-four firefighters on six fire trucks contained the blaze within 30 minutes, according to a report from the fire department.

The total estimated loss for Griffith’s home is $20,000 for contents and $15,000 for the structure. Total loss for Mayer’s home is estimated at $20,000 in contents and $30,000 for the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Fire officials weren’t immediately available to provide further information.
