Harvey County officials have closed a segment of Dutch Avenue west of Hesston as they fight stubble field fires sparked by a gas line rupture.

According to Harvey County Dispatch, gas has been shut off to the ruptured Southern Star pipeline, and officials are waiting for the gas in the line to bleed off.

Fire crews, meanwhile, are battling a large fire in wheat stubble off Northwest 72nd and North Hetzler Road.

Officials closed the road due to zero visibility, the dispatcher stated.

There is a vacant residence in the region, but it was not immediately threatened, according to scanner traffic.
