1 hurt in Manhattan house fire

One person was hurt during a house fire in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire started just after 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in 2500 block of Meadowood Dr. in Manhattan, according to a release by the Manhattan Fire Department.

When fire crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the home. The department says the fire started in the basement.

According to the Manhattan Fire Dept., two people were able to escape the home as firefighters were arriving.

One person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The extent of their injuries is not known.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out in about 20 minutes, according to the release.

16 firefighters and six fire trucks were on the scene. Total estimated damage is roughly $35,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
