Sheriff’s office calls weekend rural fires ‘suspicious’

Hays Daily News – June 11, 2018

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two fires from this weekend that it is calling suspicious.

The sheriff’s office assisted Ellis County Rural Fire at 1:45 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Emmeram Road and Toulon Avenue where a fire destroyed 33 round bales, according to a press release Monday from the sheriff’s office.

Saturday evening, a fire destroyed an unoccupied house in the 1600 block of Norfolk Road.

There were no injuries from either fire, but the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the causes. Both are believed suspicious, according to the press release.
