Body recovered after fatal rollover crash

Rescue crews have recovered the body of a 63-year-old male driver after a rollover crash in the 1000 block of southwest University Blvd.early Saturday morning.

According to Shawnee County Sheriff Deputies, the car was traveling west on University, when it left the right side of the road,struck a concrete culvert, which caused the vehicle to flip over and into a creek.

It is not yet known what caused the vehicle to swerve off the road.

The car was submerged in several feet of water with the driver trapped inside.

First responders had to pull the car from the creek. Inside they found the body of the man, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The body has been turned over to the coroner to determine cause of death, and toxicology testing.

Authorities say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver’s identity will be released after the family has been notified.

Members of the Shawnee Heights Fire Department, MTAA, and AMR assisted at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
