Early last Saturday morning, fire of unknown origin claimed a vacant house at the intersection of 175th and Randolph roads.

It was reported that a passerby discovered the blaze, which at one time had been the B.J. Studer residence, shortly after 2:00 a.m.

The fire had caused extensive damage by the time Wathena volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene. The wood-frame structure eventually fell into the basement, then was covered by the tin roof. Firefighters remained on the scene for 2 1/2 hours. The blaze also ignited the grass around the house, extending to 175th.
