One dead in Salina house fire

KSN – March 12, 2018

One person is dead following an explosion and fire in Salina Sunday morning.

It happened in the 300 block of E. Bond St. just before 4:00 a.m.

Fire Investigator Jeff Daily told KSAL News at the scene that the house was fully engulfed in flames as crews arrived. Other than some cosmetic damage to a residence to the west, and grass around the house, firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading.

Neighbors say they woke up to the sound of a loud band righ before 4:00 a.m. and they rushed outside to find the home wrapped in flames.

One person inside the house was killed. The victim’s name was not released Sunday morning pending identification of family.

Daily says that prior to the fire there appears to have been an explosion. No specific cause had yet been determined Sunday morning, but they were investigating the possibility that natural gas was the cause.

Investigators from the Salina Fire Department and the Salina Police Department are working together on the incident

The fire department did say they will have more information to release on Monday.
