Crews battled grass fire in Silver Lake

WIBW – March 12, 2018

The dry weather continues to keep fire risks elevated. Silver Lake area fire crews spent part of their afternoon battling a grass fire.

It was in the 5800 block of NW 54th. Fire Chief Joe Hawkins says a property owner was burning a trash barrel without a lid and wind blew sparks into the grass. Hawkins said the fire got near some yard equipment, but they moved it out of the way in time.

Fire crews did run into some issues with the property’s narrow driveway. The bigger fire trucks had to stay on the road, while the smaller trucks drove back and forth to get water.
