Firefighter, animal control officer rescue injured duck from icy Newton pond

KAKE – December 27, 2017

Newton Animal Control Officer Jennifer Burns and Newton Fire Fighter Ryan Dick teamed up to save an injured duck. The bird’s injuries had prevented it from moving as the water froze and it was stuck in the ice. The rescue crew used a small boat and broke the ice freeing the duck and used a net to haul it aboard. The bird was taken the Hutchinson Zoo Wildlife Rehabilitation facility for treatment.
