Salina Fire Department Announces Three Promotions

The Salina Fire Department has announced the promotions of three members of their personnel: Chad Leister, Tait Walker and David Gardner.

Chad Leister has been promoted to the position of Fire Captain.

Leister joined the Salina Fire Department on August 18, 2005 as a Firefighter/EMT. After being hired, he attended Coffeyville Community College where he graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic. He was promoted to a Paramedic in 2007. Leister was promoted to Fire Engineer in 2012 and then to Fire Lieutenant in March of 2016. He has served on the department’s EMS Protocol Development Committee, as well as its Planning and Improvement Team.

In his new position, Captain Leister will be responsible for the management of the apparatus, station, and personnel in one of four run areas within the city.

Tait Walker was promoted to the position of Fire Lieutenant.

Walker joined the Salina Fire Department in March of 2003 as a Firefighter/EMT. He then attained his Kansas Paramedic license and was promoted to SFD Paramedic in November of 2005. Walker was promoted to Fire Engineer in September of 2010. He is a member of Kansas’ Task Force 8 technical rescue team. He is also a HazMat team member as well as serving on the Fitness and Rescue committees. Walker’s water and technical rescue expertise assisted him in his deployment to Houston for Hurricane response in 2017

In his new position, Lt. Walker will function as a company level officer. He is responsible for the supervision of personnel assigned to his apparatus including the training of his crew, fire prevention activities, fire suppression and EMS service delivery to meet the department’s mission: Respond Quickly, Perform Professionally, Be Caring and Compassionate to All, and finally, (to make sure) Everyone Goes Home.

David Gardner was promoted to the position of Fire Engineer.

Gardner joined the Salina Fire Department in March of 2005 as a Firefighter/EMT. He possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Kansas Wesleyan University. After being hired, he attended Barton Community College where he graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic. He was promoted to an SFD Paramedic in 2009. In 2014, Gardner was again promoted, this time to Paramedic II.

In his newest position, Gardner will be responsible for driving and operating the various fire apparatus in the Salina Fire Department fleet. He holds multiple emergency medical certifications, and will continue to contribute on the medical side of emergency response as well. Gardner is married with 2 children; Hannah and Nick.

The Salina Fire Department announced all three promotions on Thursday.
