Two dead, one seriously injured in head-on collision

KWCH – August 7, 2017

According to Kansas Highway Patrol, two people are dead and another seriously injured after two vehicles struck each other head-on.

KHP crash logs say David Crites, 82, of Fredonia and Olin Goins, 84, of Thayer both died in the accident. Scotty Gober, 59, or Erie was seriously injured.

The crash happened around 3:00 p.m. Friday near Altoona in Wilson County.

According to the crash logs, Crites’s vehicle was traveling west-bound on K-47 when it traveled left of the center line into the east-bound lane. The vehicle Gober and Goins were in was traveling east-bound on K-47 at that time and the two vehicles collided head-on.

Both vehicles came to a stop in the east-bound lane.

Both Goins and Crites were pronounced dead on the scene. Gober was taken to an area hospital.

There were no other occupants in the two vehicles. KHP crash logs indicate that all three people were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
