Russell City Council Approves Purchase of Fire, Police Radios

KRSL – July 19, 2017

The Russell City Council met Tuesday afternoon and approved the purchase of new portable radios for the city fire and police departments.

According to Russell City Fire Chief Shane Preston, the fire and police departments were awarded a $25,000 grant from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. The grant will be used to purchase 23 radios for the firefighters and police officers.

The current radios are eight or more years old and the manufacturer has stopped making the type of radios the departments currently carry, making it difficult to find replacement parts.

The new radios will have updatable software.
