Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision Monday morning on Kansas Highway 68 west of Louisburg.

The accident, which occurred at 6:16 a.m. just east of Block Road, took the lives of Tiffany I. Maimer, 24, of Paola and Samuel O. Deal, 42, of Archie, Mo., according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. There were no passengers in the vehicles.

Deal was driving a 2012 Ford Edge west on K-68 when he reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Maimer, who was traveling east, according to the report.

Deal and Maimer were both pronounced dead at the scene. Neither were using a safety restraint, according to the report.

The wreck temporarily closed down the highway, and traffic was diverted to other routes while investigators processed the scene.
