Topeka Fire crews were on the scene of a house fire in Central Topeka late Tuesday night.

Fire crews were called just after 10 p.m. to the 1100 block of SW Jewel Ave.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but extensive damage could be seen along at least one corner of the house.

Fire officials on the scene believe the fire started in a piece of furniture that was sitting outside the house in an alleyway, then spread up the side of the structure. They say they are still investigating what caused the fire, and have not ruled out any possibilities, including fireworks.

No one was home when the fire started.

Firefighters remained on the scene after 11 p.m. doing cleanup and monitoring hot spots.
