Fire damages home

Parsons Sun – June 20, 2017

A Monday morning fire damaged a Parsons home.

No injuries were reported.

Parsons firefighters were called at 10:03 a.m. Monday to 821 S. 22nd for a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the back of the house and attic, according to a release from Fire Chief Jay Hawks.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly, and then searched the house for occupants and more fire. The occupant and owner, Karen Mahan, was out-of-town at the time of the fire.

The home sustained severe damage in the kitchen as well as smoke damage in much of the house. Estimated damage is $8,000 to $10,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no foul play is suspected.
