Co-op Fire

Parsons Sun – June 19, 2017

At about 12:30 a.m. Friday, firefighters from the Bartlett-Hackberry Township Fire Department and the Edna Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the Bartlett Co-op Edna location, 311 E. Mill Road.

“When I arrived, the building was engulfed in flames,” said Perry Sorrell, Bartlett-Hackberry Township Fire Department chief and Bartlett Co-Op Association general manager.

The building was used as a repair shop and fertilizer storage facility, Co-op officials said. Though the cause of the fire remains unknown, Co-op officials suspect a lightning strike ignited the blaze, which resulted in the loss of heavy machinery and the location’s fertilizer stock.
