1 killed, 1 hurt in Sedgwick County crash

KAKE – June 12, 2017

One person was killed and one injured Sunday night in a crash in rural southeast Sedgwick County.

Officers were called to the area of 143rd Street East and 55th Street South shortly after 11 p.m. A KAKE News journalist on the scene spotted a truck and motorcycle in the distance. But it turned out two motorcycles collided about two miles north of Cook Airfield, between Derby and Rose Hill. The truck was positioned to allow authorities to investigate.

A spokesman for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office told reporters a 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in the collision, while a 24-year-old was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

“We have two motorcycles at the scene, that are off-road type motorcycles,” Sgt. Lanon Thompson said. “One of them has no headlights. The other does have a headlight. We’re still investigating to find out what the cause of the accident was.”

Shortly after that, a separate crash killed a person in south Wichita.
