Linn County Rural Fire stations from across the county were called to the scene of a structure fire on the morning of Friday, May 19, south of 300 Road on Kansas Highway 7.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Dee Horttor firefighters arrived on scene to find the attic and the upstairs of the house in flames.

The first call out came at 8:49 a.m. and firefighters were on scene the majority of the day, with Horttor being one of the last to leave, sometime after 4 p.m.

The property belongs to Marc and Cinda Simons. Horttor said Simons’ daughter was asleep in an upstairs room when the fire alarms woke her up.

“There are two rooms upstairs that only sustained heat and smoke damage,” said Horttor.

Horttor noted that it looks as if the fire was electrical, and that nothing he saw on scene indicated a need to contact the State Fire Marshal’s office.
