Rural firefighters were busy May 28 when fire destroyed two vehicles in separate events Sunday afternoon, May 28.

About 1:40 p.m. Jed Brenner, 25 of Rural Pratt, was northbound in a 2010 GMC Acadia just south of his home near SW 100th Avenue and SW 30th Street, when his 4-year-old daughter Brileey asked what that smell was in the car. When Brenner turned around to look, he saw smoke coming out of the vents. Then the steering wheel locked up and Brenner stopped the car. More smoke was coming out so he got the girls away from the car and called 911 but the call went to Kiowa County to their dispatch.

By the time the situation was clarified and a Cullison fire truck arrived, the car was completely engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished but the vehicle was totally gutted. Brenner and his daughters, Brileey and 20 month old Brecklyn, were not injured in the fire that was one mile west and three miles south of Cullison.
