One person was taken to a Topeka hospital with life-threatening injuries after fire destroyed a house Monday morning in rural Jackson County, authorities said.

Fire departments from multiple jurisdictions responded to the blaze around 9:15 a.m. at a home at 3214 K-16 highway, about four miles west of Holton.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said on Tuesday that an occupant of the home was transported by ambulance to a Topeka hospital. The name and condition of that individual weren’t available late Tuesday morning.

More said the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office were investigating the cause of the fire.

The Soldier, Holton, Potawatomi Tribal, Hoyt, Mayetta and Havensville fire departments responded to the scene.

Additional details weren’t available.
