A blaze that caused extensive damage to a house at 701 S. Seventh St. in Marysville in the early morning hours Monday was extinguished by the fire department.

Richard Stonger, the resident, was at home when the fire started and called for help at 2:36 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Rockwell reported. There was extensive damage to the kitchen, where the fire started, and smoke and water damage throughout the house. No one was injured.

Rockwell said three trucks and 24 firefighters responded and were back at the station at 5:10 a.m.

Firefighters were called to a fire burning a Westar high-tension, 80-foot power pole at 6:14 p.m. Sunday. Rockwell said a grass fire had caused the pole to catch fire and there was serious damage to the pole, which was still standing but would need to be replaced.

Three trucks and 29 firefighters were at the scene until 7:05 p.m.
