Fire damages east Wichita apartments

KNSS – April 10, 2017

Fire damaged an eight-unit apartment building in east Wichita. It happened around 7:00 p.m. Friday night at the Colony East Apartments in the 8,000 block of E. Douglas, near Douglas and Rock Road.

Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the building. The flames spread from the first floor, to the second, but crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.

Deputy Wichita Fire Chief Tammy Snow says the crews then searched the apartments and office areas and didn’t find anyone in the affected unites. However, one person in a first floor apartment reported breathing problems, and was transported to an area hospital. Her condition is not known.

No damage estimate was immediately available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
