The Clyde Fire Department was called to a house fire on Sunday, February 26th at the former Bryan Feight residence, located north and west of Clyde. The house was unoccupied at the time, as they had moved into their new house 1/2 mile to the south and east. It was declared a total loss.

A Salina Journal carrier was driving by on his route and noticed flames coming from the home. Jim Larsen, rural Concordia, drives the road daily on his newspaper delivery route and was unaware it was empty. “There are usually vehicles in the yard but there were none so I was relieved to see that nobody was home.” According to the Cloud County Sheriff’s Department a call was received at about 5:40 a.m. and the Clyde Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call. Cloud County District 4, located at Fort Kearney was dispatched to provide extra water.

“There were still belongings in the structure, I understand”, stated Cloud County Sheriff Deputy Hans Hanson. “We were told that the building was in transition to a new occupant. By the time the fire department arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames and everything collapsed into the basement”.

The cause of the fire is listed by the Kansas State Fire Marshal as “unidentified with investigation continuing”.
