The city of Courtland’s Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to announce that they are the recipient of a Republic County Community Foundation (Dan G. Hansen) grant in the amount of $10,000. These funds helped tremendously in the completion of purchasing much needed bunker gear.

Courtland’s City Volunteer Department planned a four year strategy for purchasing two sets of bunker gear annually at the average cost of $2,000 per set. Our first year (2015) through fundraising and departmental funds our yearly goal was met. In July of 2016 the Courtland Methodist Women held a “Gear Up” for City/Rural departments selling food/items and had a tremendous community showing. The sale along with funds from the thrift store and private donations raised enough for a full set of gear for each the city and the rural departments.

Later in October the city department applied and received a grant through Republic County Community Foundation (Dane G. Hansen funds) for a generous amount of $10,000. With the funding from this grant our department was able to purchase five more sets of complete bunker gear and complete our goal two years early.

By updating our gear we are now eligible to participate in state training to better serve our community.

On behalf of the City of Courtland and its volunteer firefighters we sincerely say: Thank you to everyone involved with this process. We know that without all of you none of this would have been possible. We volunteers take the protection of our city and surrounding community very seriously. Now with updated gear our safety had increased helping to ensure ALL COME HOME! —By Todd and Nadine Allen
