Concordia firefighters had a busy two days.

Shortly after firefighters left the scene of a fire that caused extensive damage to the house at 403 E. Fifth St. on Tuesday night, a fire was reported at 10:33 a.m. Wednesday at a residence at 603 E. Seventh St.

Upon arrival, firefighters detected heavy smoke coming from the roof and the eaves.

According to Concordia Fire Department Captain Rick Knudsen, firefighters did a quick attack from the outside and then moved into the house to extinguish the fire that is believed to have started in the kitchen area. Knudsen said the fire had spread into the walls and the attic.

Because of the large number of items inside the house, firefighters were having a hard time getting to the fire and had to battle the blaze from the outside.

The city of Concordia brought a front-end loader to the site and started pulling down the house. Firefighters continued to pour water onto the exterior of the house, as it was collapsing, until the fire was extinguished.

The house is a total loss, but there were no injuries.

There were two people at the house when the fire was reported.

Knudsen said that the people at the house noticed a loss of electricity, and went to the kitchen and discovered the fire.

The Concordia Fire Department responded with Engine-1 and Engine-2 and Medic-4.

Firefighters were on scene until about 3:30 p.m.

The Concordia Police Department and Cloud County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the call.

Knudsen said the fire department would like to thank the people in the community who donated food, water, and ice for the firefighters.
