Leavenworth firefighters responded to two fires Friday morning.

No injuries were reported as a result of either fire. And both fires appear to be accidental, according to Mark DeMaranville, division chief of prevention for the Leavenworth Fire Department.

The first fire was reported shortly after 7 a.m. at a two-story house at 1021 Osage St.

Four people were home at the time the fire was discovered, but they all made it safely out of the house.

Smoke could be seen coming from the home when firefighters arrived, DeMaranville said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze. The fire damage was limited to a second-floor bedroom.

The second fire was reported at 11:29 a.m. at an apartment at 812 Shawnee St.

Three people were inside the apartment at the time the fire was discovered. One person was in a neighboring apartment. Everyone made it safely out of the apartments, DeMaranville said.

The fire began in a living room. When firefighters arrived, they could see flames coming from the front door and a front window of the apartment at 812 Shawnee St.

DeMaranville said firefighters had the flames “knocked down” within about 15 minutes. But they spent additional time looking for hot spots.

Members of the Fort Leavenworth Fire Department provided assistance to Leavenworth firefighters at the scene.

The American Red Cross also was contacted to provide assistance to the residents.

DeMaranville said the fire caused extensive damage to the living room area. There also was heat, smoke and water damage throughout the apartment.

He estimated that the fire caused between $60,000 and $70,000 worth of damage.
