Local Heroes Golf Tournament

Dodge City Globe – March 29, 2017

On March 25 at Mariah Hills Golf Course, members of the Dodge City Police Department and Dodge City Fire Department competed against one another in the first, Heroes Golf Tournament.

The tournament was a benefit held for the Meadowlark House in Dodge City.

“The goal of the golf tournament is to foster cooperation among the two departments and to give them the opportunity to get to know people from the other department,” Meadowlark House director Stephanie Fuhrmann said in a press release. “A total of 26 players were joined by nearly as many volunteers and family members.”

The winners of the tournament, the DCPD, were also given a traveling trophy to go along with the bragging rights.

The Meadowlark House is a location in the community that serves child victims of crime in Ford County and the surrounding area.

“Approximately $1,400 was raised for the Meadowlark House,” Furhmann said. “This money will be used to ensure a safe space for children to be interviewed for law enforcement investigations.

“Last year the Meadowlark House provided 88 interviews as well as advocacy and referral services.

“Although the temperature was cool and the wind was blowing, everyone had a good time.

“JAG construction provided lunch for everyone.”

The two department teams will meet again in the future for an upcoming softball game.

The Meadowlark House will be holding an open house on April 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1405 Avenue A in Dodge City.
