Cause of small grass fires in Garden City unknown

The cause of two small grass fires in Garden City on Sunday and Monday is unknown, according to Garden City Fire Department officials.

On Monday, the GCFD responded to a call at 1 p.m. on a reported grass fire on Lincoln Road and Jones Avenue.

According to Fire Chief Allen Shelton, it was a small fire that burned about a half-acre. Firefighters spent about 40 minutes at the scene.

On Sunday, firefighters responded at 12:27 p.m. to a grass fire at the intersection of the U.S. Highway 83/50 bypass and Kansas Avenue, near the on-ramp close to the Comfort Inn, 2608 E. Kansas Ave.

Shelton said that fire burned less than an acre, and firefighters were on scene for about an hour.

There were no reported losses on either fires.
