Two people were taken to Newman Regional Health after several vehicles collided on the Kansas Turnpike southwest of Emporia on Wednesday night.

The Turnpike Authority says the crash happened eight miles southwest of the Emporia tollgate shortly before 9:30 pm. A car driven by 28-year-old Christopher Callison of Olathe was southbound and swerved to miss a slow-moving semi. The car hit the center barrier wall and stopped at a 90-degree angle to the highway.

The car was hit by a pickup driven by 57-year-old Edward Greiman of Garner, Iowa, and then was hit by an SUV driven by 53-year-old Marcine Moldenhauer of Valley Center.

Callison and a passenger, 28-year-old Rebekah Callison of Olathe, were both hospitalized locally. The hospital does not release patient conditions to the media.
