Deadly wreck shuts down 30 mile stretch of US-24 west of Clay Center

A 30-mile stretch of US-24 in Clay Co. was shut down Wednesday morning following a deadly, three-vehicle crash.

Authorities say one person was killed in the crash.A semi tractor-trailer and two other vehicles were reportedly involved in the incident, which happened around 7:30 a.m. about eight miles west of Clay Center.

The conditions of the other two drivers is not yet known. There were no other passengers in any of the vehicles.

Officials said the highway is closed from US-81 to Clay Center and it is expected to remain closed for a while as crews work to clean up fuel spilled along the roadway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol’s Critical Highway Response Team (CHART) and the Kansas Dept. of Transportation have responded to the scene.
