The Stockton Fire Department was kept busy this weekend with fire calls, beginning last Thursday with a call for mutual aid from Graham County. At approximately 8:00 p.m., the Stockton tanker truck was sent to a location south of Bogue on J Road in Graham County to a house fire. The occupant of the two-story structure arrived home to discover the fire. No one was inside. Stockton Fire Chief Jon Voss said the house was a total loss.

On Friday at 2:45 p.m., fire personnel were called to a small grass fire two miles south of Stockton. About an acre of grass was burned. The Plainville Fire Department was asked to assist in the blaze due to the rough terrain. The fire was extinguished in about an hour. According to Voss, the probably cause of the fire was an electrical problem with an oil well nearby.

On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., a small fire in a garage sent fire crews west of Stockton to a rental property owned by Don Lucky. An 8-year-old resident there spotted the fire through the garage window. Voss said there was minimal damage to the window and that they were on-site only about 30-45 minutes. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but the site of origin was outside the building on the window sill.
