Icy roads are to blame for two separate fatal accidents in Western Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the first crash happened in Hodgeman County a little before 2 p.m. Thursday.

Frank Espinoza, 70, was Eastbound on K-156 when he lost control due to the slick road conditions. His vehicle went into the ditch and rolled. Two others in the vehicle were taken to Hodgeman County Health Center with unknown injuries.

The second accident happened in Finney County around 4:30 p.m.

That’s when the KHP says a vehicle was eastbound on U-50 when it hit a patch of ice, went into the median and rolled. A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Josh Huber was ejected from the vehicle, striking a second vehicle on the roadway. Huber was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two others in the vehicle were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

There were no injuries reported on the second car involved.
