The Topeka Fire Department says an early morning fire that erupted at a building was intentionally set.

A Kansas Highway Patrol Capitol Police Officer noticed smoke coming from the back of this one story building.

At around 2:20 a.m., the Topeka Fire Department rushed to 823 Southwest Topeka Blvd. Firefighters forced entry through the front door and the building was vacant at the time and no one was hurt.

At the same time, Topeka firefighters were just blocks away at 816 Southwest Polk street investigating smoke which was caused by burnt food. That building was ventilated.

The estimated damage at the Topeka Blvd location is $1,500 in structural damage.
